It is recommended to have DirectX 11 compatible hardware for using Windows 7. When Windows 7 is installed on older hardware originally made for DirectX 9 then Windows 7 installs Directx 11 drivers during installation. So DirectX 9 games cannot start and shows message "driver or dll not found / not compatible error". You cannot install DirectX 9 as DirectX 11 is already installed.
If you have been able to install the GMA drivers in comptibility mode then you may also be able run DirectX 9 games in Windows 7 by updating your DirectX 11 .dll files.
