How to run DirectX 9 games in windows 7

It is recommended to have DirectX 11 compatible hardware for using Windows 7. When Windows 7 is installed on older hardware originally made for DirectX 9 then Windows 7 installs Directx 11 drivers during installation. So DirectX 9 games cannot start and shows message "driver or dll not found / not compatible error". You cannot install DirectX 9 as DirectX 11 is already installed.

If you have been able to install the GMA drivers in comptibility mode then you may also be able run DirectX 9 games in Windows 7 by updating your DirectX 11 .dll files. For the download "dxwebsetup.exe" form Microsoft's website and execute it. It updates the DirectX files in your system and also installs compatible extensions for using DirectX 9.

To find which version of DirectX is in your system run DirectX Diagnostic Tool. It provides all information about system Graphics and Sound capabilities. You can also use freely downloadable tools such as GPU caps viewer and get detailed information about Graphics hardware.
